The first teaser for the highly anticipated HBO series, We Own This City, has officially dropped, and we have a lot to say. The limited series, based on the book We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops, and Corruption by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton, follows the narrative of the corrupted Baltimore police department following the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray in 2015. This hard-hitting story made for a dope teaser - so we can't wait to watch it on the small screens when it drops-so let's take a look at what's going on.

Who better to take control of the upcoming drama than, The Wire creator David Simon and producer George Pelecanos. This iconic duo is responsible for telling the story of the upcoming 6-hour limited series. Directing all six episodes is Reinaldo Marcus, who directed King Richard. Of course, with this impeccable crew comes an outstanding cast. Starring in the series is Jon Bernthal as Wayne Jenkins, the central figure in the Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force; Josh Charles as Daniel Hersl, a cop known for his casual brutality in the city; and Wunmi Mosaku playing Nicole Steele, an attorney working for the Department of Justice investigating the corrupt task force.

The show is set in the aftermath stages of "The Charm City" when citizens demand justice for the death of Freddie Gray, who suspiciously died under police custody. The teaser shows the brutal police treatment against the scene of the civil unrest in the city and will focus on the fall of the crooked Baltimore Police Department's Gun Trace Task Force. "We're always trying to go for the truth on this show," said Bernthal. "I think police and race and the intersection of those two things is something that's enormously important to me in my life, and to sort of get this front row seat to it in Baltimore is an unbelievable honor to me, and I think David and George are national treasures," Jon Bernthal added in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
