Performing at the Superball halftime show in February 2022 was a career highlight for Snoop. Rapping his greatest hits in front of millions of people at one of the biggest sports events, there were not many ways to go up from there. For this reason, he's gone big for his next project, teaming up with the greats to create an official biopic. Following in the footsteps of some of the most impressive public figures in history, the 51-year-old hip-hop star is retelling his life story on the big screen. Here's everything we know so far...

In a statement released on Wednesday, Snoop announced the partnership between his production company, Death Row Pictures, and Universal Pictures. "I waited a long time to put this project together because I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect writer, and the greatest movie company I could partner with that could understand the legacy that I'm trying to portray on screen, and the memory I'm trying to leave behind," he wrote. "It was the perfect marriage. It was holy matrimony, not holy macaroni."

This film will mark Death Row Pictures' debut movie title, and the soundtrack will incorporate many of the rapper's iconic hits. Allan Hughes (Menace II Society) will take on the director role, additionally producing alongside Snoop and Sara Remaker. Joe Robert, the impressive writer behind the Black Panther films, will be penning this biopic. Donna Langley, the chairman at Universal, praised the artist and the partnership in a statement. "Snoop Dogg's life and legacy make him one of the most exciting and influential icons in popular culture," she said. "We met with Snoop and had the opportunity to hear his story in his own words. We are humbled to be able to create the lasting document of this singular artist."

To their credit, Universal is no stranger to producing hip-hop biopics. In 2015, they released Straight Outta Compton, a film that told the story of the rap group N.W.A. Additionally in 2002, they created the critically-acclaimed 8-Mile, which recalled the backstory of the legend Eminem. With no release date having been announced yet, we'll be replaying Snoop's greatest hits until we know more!
