It's the one thing on every Netflix-goer's mind: what's up with Squid Game? Ever since the K-Drama dropped back in September, it's taken the entire world by storm. But lucky for us, there's more fun where that came from. Here's what we know about the upcoming season - and a potential Squid Game spin-off. That's right. Keep scrolling.
On January 20, Netflix exec Ted Sarandos first broke the big news at the streaming giant's fourth-quarter 2021 earnings interview. "Absolutely. The Squid Game universe has just begun," he teased, when asked if we'd be returning to the playground anytime soon. Does that mean what we think it means? Is there a Squid Game spin-off currently in the works? While we guess only time will tell, we do know this: expect the unexpected.
In a recent sit-down with Entertainment Weekly, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased plans of a dark plot twist. "As for the Front Man [Lee Byung-hun], who was also a past winner but became a Front Man, it's like Darth Vader. Some end up Jedi, and some become Darth Vader, right?" the Squid Game mastermind began. "I think that maybe Gi-hun will go through a certain critical point where he is put through a test as well." Of course, though, it won't be as simple as it seems. As a matter of fact, Dong-hyuk is already 10 steps ahead of us. "I learned and really felt that I'm really going to have to pay more attention to the details. I will not make any mistakes, no matter how small they may be. Through the next season, if there was one, I would try to bring more joy to the fans, and maybe more Easter eggs to put in there."
Safe to say, it won't be all fun and games when it comes to chasing that $45.6 billion Won next time around. Or will it? While we'll probably have to wait 'til 2023 to find that one out for ourselves, be sure to tune in to these other Netflix Halloween titles in the meantime. And, of course, stay tuned for more updates.
