Famously said by Elizabeth Banks, AKA Effie Trinket, in the first Hunger Games movie back in 2012, "Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor!" Now that the odds are in all of our favor with a new Hunger Games movie approaching, we're thrilled to have seen a fresh movie reveal of the 2023 drop - giving us a little glimpse at what is happening in the Capitol this time around...
The Hunger Games film series was originally based on the trilogy of novels written by Suzanne Collins and adapted to the big screen a decade ago. Following the release of the first film, which absolutely killed it at the box offices, Lionsgate then produced the second wildly successful film a year later, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 1 and eventually Part 2 to follow. Talk about a successful franchise. No wonder they're ready to bring the money-making Blockbuster hit back into our lives - and we're here for it.
Prior to the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards, an exclusive reveal of the upcoming 5th film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, dropped - and as elusive as it was, District 12 fans everywhere were going wild. The prequel is currently in pre-production phases, as the production company is putting together the new cast for the 2023 film. Late last month, it was announced that Rachel Zegler, known as Maria in West Side Story, was cast as the female lead role of Lucy Gray Baird alongside Tom Blyth, who will be playing a young Coriolanus Snow. "Like everybody, I first saw Rachel Zegler in West Side Story, and like everybody, I knew I was watching a star who would command the screen for a generation," explained director Francis Lawrence. "Lucy Gray is a perfect match for her as an actress: the character is bold, independent, and defiant, but also vulnerable, emotional, and loving. Rachel will make this character unforgettable."
