The Christmas decorations may be coming down for this year's holiday season, but that doesn't mean we can't look forward to next year already, especially with this latest news! Tracee Ellis Ross is set to star in the holiday comedy Candy Cane Lane. Here's what we know so far.
The plot details of the upcoming film are primarily under wraps, but the story is inspired by the holiday experiences that the movie's writer, Kelly Younger, experienced during his childhood. Reginald Hudlin, known for being a producer on films like Django Unchained and Marshall, is directing the movie. The Black-ish actress will be starring alongside comedian Eddie Murphy. According to Deadline, the film is currently filming in Los Angeles. There are no details about what Ross's role will be, but we're still super excited. Candy Cane Lane marks the first time Ross and Murphy will work together. Say what??! We can't believe it has taken these two legendary actors this long to be in a project together.
Ross had been playing Rainbow Johnson on the ABC sitcom Black-ish. The Kenya Barris show wrapped up its final season last spring. Ross won a Golden Globe and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy five times during the show's run. For fans of the show, they will be excited to see her return to their screens. Ross was also a producer on the sitcom, and since she finished with Black-ish, she has executive produced a docuseries and a podcast series. Candy Cane Lane is the first film being made in Murphy's three-picture, first-look deal with Amazon Studios. The deal came after Murphy returned to his role as Prince Akeem in Coming 2 America, the sequel to his 1988 hit comedy Coming to America.
