Not that we need any reminder, but HOVA was inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame earlier this month. And if you're like us, then you might want to live this legendary night over. Especially when it comes to the iconic shoutout Jay got from fellow industry big names.
The 23-time Grammy Award-winning artist's acceptance speech was shared on social media following the induction ceremony, but an extra tidbit has been added to HBO's televised special of the history-making evening. And lucky for us, it's been added to HBO Max's on-demand streaming services. The bonus content in question? A compilation video of some of the biggest celebrities honoring Jay-Z in the best way possible: reciting the iconic verses that landed him the induction in the first place. So let's take a look at who was in the clip.
The video, titled The Times and Life of Shawn Carter started off strong with a shoutout from Queen B, who was followed by huge rap names including Common, DJ Khaled, Sean Combs, MC Lyte, and Queen Latifah. But that wasn't all. Other influential celebs that came up around the same time as Jay popped in the video to honor his big win. From Regina King to Kevin Hart, Halle Berry, and Naomi Campbell, there was no shortage of love for HOVA in the four-and-a-half-minute clip.
But perhaps the most touching guest in the video was none other than Blue Ivy Carter. Jay's nine-year-old daughter honored her pops with lyrics from his 1998 track, Ride or Die. "Congrats S. Carter, ghostwriter, You paid the right price, so we just make your hits tighter," Blue Ivy rapped while holding back laughs. Fans on social media couldn't get enough of this multi-industry collaboration. From Coldplay's Chris Martin to Laker's superstar LeBron James, fans just couldn't believe the number of celebrities that wanted to be included. "Only Jay Z could bring all these people together," one user commented on @rockhall's Instagram post.
Safe to say that this video, in addition to Jay's big win will go down in music history. Stay tuned for more news from the world of rap.
