Kid Cudi Finally Reveals the Inspiration Behind ‘Day ’n’ Nite’
| LAST UPDATE 11/08/2021
For most of us, Day 'N' Nite is just another track that tops our Spotify playlist. But for the man behind the music? It means so much more. In Kid Cudi's new documentary, the rapper opened up about the making of his hit single - and from the sounds of it? It changed his life in more ways than one...
On Friday, November 5, the artist pulled back the curtains as his long-awaited documentary, A Man Named Scott, hit screens. Safe to say, nothing was off-limits as Cudi reflected on his time centered in the spotlight. More specifically, the 37-year-old artist talked penning Day 'N' Nite - a track we've still got on repeat to this very day. But according to the music legend, it was never supposed to be that way...
In fact, as Cudi put it, writing the 2008 single was never meant to be a money move, let alone get turned into a massive hit. Instead? The rapper had one thing on his mind: Himself. "I was going through a really rough time and it was really just like therapy for me to write it," he confessed. "I wasn't thinking about making a hit record... I wrote it for me, you know what I'm saying? And if people felt it, that's cool."
But don't get it twisted - at the end of the day, Cudi's still a man of the people. "Creating something new and helping people, it's always been an escape for me, and it's freeing," he added. "Everything I make has to help people in some way." Which, well, he isn't wrong. From Day 'N' Nite to Reborn, Cudi's journey through Hollywood saw him push boundaries no other artist would ever dare.
Sure enough, 13 years and endless hits later, Kid Cudi is better than ever. "I’m in such a happier place … And knowing that I’m at a better place with me, with Scott, that I love myself, that I’m happy, I just hope fans can see that." Check out A Man Named Scott for yourself to see what all the hype is about for yourself.
