Lil Nas X Reacts to Artists who Turned Down Features on 'Montero'
| LAST UPDATE 11/16/2021
It's been almost two months since Lil Nas X changed the game forever with his debut album, Montero. And while we wouldn't change a thing about the record, Lil Nas confessed that things could've sounded a whole lot different - but some big names in HipHop turned down his invitation to feature on his tracks. Here's the scoop.
While some rappers like to put out their debut album featuring no one else but themselves, others welcome some heavy-hitting features. And Lil Nas did just that. From Jack Harlow's part in Industry Baby to Megan Thee Stallion's bit in Dolla Sign Slime, the 22-year-old rapper welcomed any and all features... But some artists didn't take him up on the offer. "For every feature I did ask for on this album, like every single one of them worked," Lil Nas explained during his interview with GQ. "Besides Drake and Nicki [Minaj]."

But it was a bit more complicated than a simple rejection. "I didn't ask them directly," the Montero singer said. But his dream had been to feature Nicki on Industry Baby and have the 6ix God come in for Dolla Sign Slime. But the Grammy Award-winning rapper wasn't letting the rejections get to him. In fact, after the success of the album, he believed that everything fell into place by the end. "I feel like things always work out," Lil Nas said. "Jack Harlow ended up being, like, the best option. I'm not sure how comfortable Nicki would have felt with that video or whatnot."
And for Drake? Well, according to Lil Nas's interview on The Breakfast Club way back in September, it was a case of the right idea at the wrong time. "[Drake] was still working on Certified Lover Boy, and he was 100% focused on that, and I understood completely," the That's What I Want artist said. "And he said he's down to do something, but just [it wasn't] the right time."
Well, we can't wait until it is the right time because these two rappers will shut the whole game down with a track together. Stay tuned for more hip-hop news...
