We're celebrating the one and only Missy Elliott's entrance into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! She made history as the first female rapper inducted! After the announcement, Missy hit the 'gram to spread the love and gratitude.
"I want to say this is HUGE not for just me but all my Sisters in HIPHOP this door is now OPEN to showcase the hard work that many of us WOMEN contribute to MUSIC," Missy wrote. "I have cried all day because I am GRATEFUL thank you @rockhall & all on the committee & Supafriends I love you." But hold up, she's not the only one getting inducted. The Spinners and George Michael are also making their way into the Hall of Fame. And let's not forget about other dope performers like Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, and Rage Against the Machine.
The Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, John Sykes, said it best: "This year’s incredible group of Inductees reflects the diverse artists and sounds that define rock & roll." And let's not forget that this year's ceremony is extra special since it coincides with Willie Nelson's 90th birthday and the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop's birth! But wait, there's more - DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray are receiving the Musical Influence Award, while Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, and Bernie Taupin are musical excellence honorees. And last but definitely not least, the late Don Cornelius will be receiving the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
