New York City's Wall Street had some surprise visitors this week! The Balenciaga X Adidas Spring 2023 collaboration took over the stock exchange, giving everyone a run for their money (literally). Demna, the creative designer behind Balenciaga, took the high fashion brand and streetwear label to a runway never before seen with pieces we're drooling over.
The brand's unlikely but likely pairing took over the New York Stock Exchange for its official launch, something no one has ever done before. The iconic brands joined forces to debut the 33-piece collection that features both labels' signature styles while maintaining each other's aesthetics. The collection involved a variety of everyday wear with a large touch of Balenciaga's price tags, as the models strutted that catwalk. The collection combined Adidas' signature triple-stripe motif with Balenciaga's avant-garde cutting edge looks to produce skin-tight full-body suits, oversized washed denim, chunky sneakers, and $5,500 hoodies. So if you're used to dropping 5K on a hoodie, this one's for you.
With that being said, Demna put his heart and soul into this Spring 2023 collection, inspired by today's social climate. The models strutted down the runway while "masked up" to showcase the lingering effect of the pandemic but still made it Balenciaga fash-un forward. This was the first time Balenciaga held a fashion show outside of Paris to showcase a new collection, and they chose NYC as their American home base. "This is actually the first time we wanted to go outside of Paris because we're considered a global brand now, and New York is the first place I ever came to in America," Demna said. "This is how I see people here with a culture that can perfectly balance upscale tailoring being worn with sneakers," he explained. Sounds like Paris might have some competition.
The Adidas and Balenciaga partnership is one of the many sportswear and luxury fashion collaborations we've seen this year, but for some reason, this one hits differently. "Balenciaga/Adidas," as the pair prefers, was unveiled during Balenciaga's Spring 2023 runway show, with celebs such as Kanye West, Pharell Williams, and Candice Swanepoel sitting front row. The collection is already available for purchase exclusively on Balenciaga's website and at the brand's NYC Madison Avenue shop. Stay tuned for more must-know drops.
